Alex’s Lemonade Donations
Jun 6th, 2014
Each year Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) hosts “Lemonade Days”. This year it is June 6th and runs through June 8th. It is their major campaign to create awareness for their foundation, which benefits childhood cancer research. ALSF started 10 years ago with a little girl – Alexandra “Alex” Scott. She was diagnosed with cancer at less than a year old. Around 4 years old, she decided she wanted to have a lemonade stand to help raise money for kids like her to get the help that she did. She raised over $1 million by age 8 when she passed away. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation proudly helps to keep her legacy and her spirit alive.
As in past years, ACME Markets has made it easy for our customers to donate money to ALSF by the use of paper lemons at the register. You can donate $1, $3 or $5, or any amount, in store upon checkout. Also, over half of our stores are participating in lemonade stands. Check with your local store to see if they are having a stand and when. Donations can be made in ALL stores between June 6th through June 18th. All the donations collected at store level will go to ALSF to help fund childhood cancer research.
This year we wanted to have something digitally that would help raise awareness for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The concept of a virtual lemonade stand arose. The images would be simple sketches of bummed out kids who want to sell lemonade but they don’t have enough money to make a stand. The more LIKES and SHARES of the page, the more “help” the kids get to build their stand. With every level being a little different, each threshold met will change the image resulting in a “better” stand.
In addition to “building” a stand, ACME will be donating $1 for every like and $1 for every share up to $10,000 and a minimum of $2000. The money will go toward helping fund research for childhood cancer.
