With thousands of community members affected by the Atlantic City casino closures, many local individuals and families will find it difficult to put meals on the table. Jewish Family Service, along with ACME Markets, is dedicated to providing meals to community members in need. To help with this initiative, JFS will hold a food drive at ACME in Somers Point (212 New Road) on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 10 am – 2 pm. This food drive will assist in re-stocking the agency food pantry especially during Thanksgiving when holiday meals are needed.

JFS expects a significant increase in requests this year and is dedicated to providing essential food to anyone in need. For this collection, JFS is asking shoppers to pick up top holiday items such as stuffing, mashed potatoes and canned vegetables. The agency also always needs essentials such a cereal, peanut butter, tuna fish, macaroni and cheese and soups. JFS and ACME will make shoppers experience easy and efficient by offering pre-packaged bags that include all of the holiday essentials. Shoppers can pick up a bag at the ACME entrance and checkout knowing each bag will feed one family.

“This is a challenging time for many in our community and JFS is dedicated to providing meals to anyone in need,” said Andrea Steinberg, Chief Executive Officer of Jewish Family Service. “With the generosity of community members and businesses, like ACME Markets, we hope to ensure that no one goes hungry.”

In addition to hosting the food drive, ACME Markets generously donated $500 in gift cards to help JFS get a jump start on feeding families this holiday season.
