Be a Christmas Morning Foodie!

Christmas morning  food seems just as important as any other Christmas tradition…and if not more important! When I think back to Christmas memories as a kid, it was what we ate Christmas morning that I remember.  Maybe because the memories around the tree are imprinted into my mind, so memories with the tastebuds then are also imprinted:)  Whatever the reason, Christmas morning is definitely memory-making food.

Our tradition growing up was always that my dad would make these ginormous omelets….for each individual.  It was basically the only thing he made….and he was good at it. He made two versions: a sweet, and a savory. One year, when I came home from college (I was in school for nutrition science at the time), I happened to be in the kitchen as a “grown up”, as opposed to around the tree, and I witnessed what actually went into making these ginormous omelets. Let’s just say, as a nutrition student, I was a little shocked (sorry, dad!), and dad had to start making my omelet cook-to-order.  It was then that I began making something to add to the Christmas morning feast, that was a little bit healthier….but I like to think that I added to the feast out of the generous part of my heart, not my unsatisfaction with dad’s omelet process (hehe).

Anyways, here are some of our favorites. To me, Christmas morning food needs to be made in big batches….so everyone can be together, and the food can be partaken of throughout the morning.  I love to have a bank of recipes that ring true for holiday time, because these will be the smells and tastes that my little ones & my company have for years to come!  And that makes Christmas morning food ultra-important!
