The temperature is rising and summer is coming which means one thing: BBQ Season is BACK!  Now you may have your arsenal of go-to recipes, or maybe some new dishes you want to try.  But just one question: is your back yard ready?  Before you invite everyone over to enjoy the beginning of everyone’s favorite time of year, here are 5 quick tips to make sure your yard is host-ready.

1. Clean Out What Winter Left Behind
Sometimes, winter can leave behind reminisce of leaves, branches and other items that might have gotten buried in the snow and forgotten about.  One clean sweep, and your yard will look good as new!

2. Give Your Chairs Some TLC

Outdoor Furniture
If you’re like me, then you leave your lawn chairs outside…all year long.  And while they might sit under an overhang, they still need a little attention before company comes over!  I like to take them out on the patio, spray them all down, do a quick spritz of a cleaner like 409, dry them off and they’re good to go!  Be sure to double check any metal chairs for rust – there are paints you can get that are resistant to that and can give your chairs new life with a quick coat of fresh paint.  Get some great tips for painting your metal chairs here

3. Don’t Leave Your Yard to the Dogs
It’s my LEAST favorite chore, but I try and make sure my back yard looks “dog free,” even though the back yard is clearly my pup’s domain.  But, none of your guests want to be the one that steps on a land mine, so be sure to get those signs cleaned up!  Grab some of those grocery bags you might have…they make for great clean up bags!

4. Serving Drinks? Think Outside the Cooler!
Not everyone has a large cooler or has multiple coolers to keep beverages on ice for your guests.  Instead of dropping a pretty penny on a nice, large cooler, I have used plastic tubs instead!  These are inexpensive and can be used for multiple things!  Pro tip: tie a bottle opener to one of the handles – that way your guests are not having to hunt one down, and you won’t lose yours at the end of the night!

5. Shed Some Light On The Night!

Tiki TorchNot all parties are guaranteed to end when the sun goes down, so be prepared!  Backyard porch lights can be too bright, attract bugs and only light up a small portion of your yard.  I love to use a combination of tiki torches (keeps bugs away!) and outdoor white lights.  It’s the perfect amount of light and keeps the evening going for however long we choose to!

So, tell us in the comments: what do you do to get ready for grilling season?
