3 Ways To Enjoy (and Stuff) Avocado Bowls

Thought you needed to avoid avocados because they’re rich in fat? That was so ten years ago. Avocados contribute smart fat (the same type we get from extra virgin olive oil), along with fiber and some key vitamins and minerals, to your daily diet. Not only are they a great addition to your salads, sandwiches, eggs and Mexican-style dishes, they also can be cut in half to become an edible avocado bowl! 

An avocado bowl (half of a medium avocado) is super satisfying but only adds 115 calories, 6 grams of carbohydrates and 1.4 grams of saturated fat. Each avocado half boosts fiber by 5 grams, protein by 2 grams, monounsaturated fat by 6.5 grams and potassium by 344 milligrams!

Here are three tips and tricks to help you enjoy avocado bowls year round!

Tip #1 Use Prepared Salads

Cut each avocado in half lengthwise and remove the pit. If you need a bigger crevice to fill with your salad, carve out a bigger hole with a soup spoon. Keep the peel on the avocado—it serves as an all-natural bowl!

If buying in advanced, choose avocados that are still a little bit firm so they will be the perfect ripeness for the party! Wait to cut the avocados in half until right before serving, then spray or brush with lemon juice to prevent browning. Set an assortment of toppings/salads in bowls for guests to choose from.
