Feast on fish Research has found that eating fish may improve cardiovascular health in people with type 2 diabetes. This is important because heart disease is common among people with diabetes, and is a leading cause of death in this group.
Feature more fiber According to a comprehensive research review on the connection between dietary fiber and diabetes, eating plenty of cereal grain fiber may significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.55
Limit sugar Most doctors recommend that people with diabetes eat less sugary foods like snacks and processed foods and replace these foods with high-fiber, whole foods.
Switch up the fat Replacing saturated fat with monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), which are found predominantly in olive oil, and also nuts and seeds, may improve insulin sensitivity and minimize the accumulation of unhealthy fat around the mid-section.
