Knead until a smooth dough is formed and let rest for 3 minutes. How to Prepare the Arepa: 5. Separate dough into 10 portions. Take one portion in your hands and shape it into a ball, then press it with your palms to form a large patty shape of about 3-1/2 in (10 cm) in diameter. Place onto a griddle or frying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side. Brown on both sides and serve hot. Open the arepa and fill it to taste. Keep in a clean, dry and cool place.
